Michigan Recruiting Class
Michigan wrapped up the 2022 recruiting cycle in style. Currently ranked as the #8 class in the country that features in state, five star and the 14th ranked player in the country, cornerback Will Johnson. The Wolverines filled a lot of needs, especially in the secondary, the Wolverine's secondary class is the second best in the country trailing only the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Wolverines also replace some needs along the defensive line. Four star, #48 player in the country Derrick Moore out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore is a physical freak at 6-4 250. He also MVP at the Under Armour All American game. He could potentially fill a whole on the edge in year one with the departures of Heisman finalist Aidan Hutchinson and All-American David Ojabo both heading to the NFL.
This class has a few players who could be instant impact guys, as well as future diamonds in the rough. A few notable three star prospects who stand out are defensive tackle Kenneth Grant out of Merriville, IN. Grant comes in at 6-4 335 pounds and could be a run stuffing force for the defensive line in the future. Alex Orji is listed as a quarterback but has the size (6-2, 226) and athleticism to help out the Wolverines in a variety of positions. Let's not count him out as the quarterback of the future though, Orji's tape jumps out at you with his ability to place the ball wherever he wants.
Amorion Walker is a wide receiver out of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Michigan flipped him during the early signing period from Notre Dame. At 6-4, 175, Walker has the length and big play ability that you look for in a wide receiver. He still needs some work on his fluency in and out of his breaks. With some work however, he could become a very dangerous player for Michigan in the future.
Safety Damani Dent stands out more than most to me, his work ethic is evident and his desire to be great is something that you can't teach. He also has freakish athleticism and a ball hawking mentality that was on display in the 7 on 7 circuit. Michigan has two four star safeties in Zeke Berry and Keon Sabb who come with a lot of fanfare (rightfully so), but don't be surprised if you hear Dent's name on the field earlier than most expect.
CJ Stokes is a running back commit out of Columbia, South Carolina. Every Michigan fan will tell you that he gives off serious Hassan Haskins vibes, which bodes well for his future. Definitely more of a power back than a speedster he could end up finding a role in Michigan's short yardage game with both Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum being more explosive backs.
The complete list of Michigan's recruiting class is as followed:
#14 5 Star - CB Will Johnson, Grosse Pointe, Michigan
#48 4 Star - DE Derrick Moore, Baltimore, Maryland
